Two sisters born in Poland were separated when they were still children. Iwona was adopted in Italy in 1997. Her sister Paulina was placed in an orphanage in Płońsk and was later adopted. Since then, Iwona has had no further information about her.
Iwona writes.
My name is Iwona.
Before my adoption, my name was Iwona Schmeichel. I was born on June 6, 1987, in Ciechanów, Poland.
On September 7, 1997, I was adopted in Italy.
But throughout all these years, I have never stopped searching for one person:
my sister, Paulina Schmeichel.
Paulina was born on October 3, 1994, in Poland.
When we were children, our lives changed completely.
After we were taken from our family home in Białuty, we were placed in children’s institutions.
I was taken to an orphanage in Ciechanów.
Paulina, however, was taken to an orphanage in Płońsk.
Then our paths were permanently separated.
Paulina was still a baby. She was approximately eight months old when she was separated from us.
She was later adopted.
From that moment on, I received no further information about my sister.
A SISTER SHE HAS NEVER STOPPED SEARCHING FOR
I do not know the family who adopted Paulina.
I do not know where in Italy she was adopted.
I do not know what name or surname she may have today.
I do not know where she lives or what kind of life she has had.
I only know that the little girl I knew as Paulina Schmeichel, born on October 3, 1994, was transferred to the orphanage in Płońsk and later adopted.
Many years have passed.
I tried to find my sister in the past and contacted Laura Perspicace about two years ago.
Unfortunately, no information has yet allowed us to find Paulina.
That is why I am asking for this appeal to be published again.
PAULINA, IF YOU RECOGNIZE THIS STORY…
I don’t want anything from my sister except to know what happened to her.
I would like to know where she lives, how she is and what kind of life she has had.
If Paulina was adopted in Italy, she may have a different first name and surname today.
She may also have no idea that she has a sister who has been looking for her for so many years.
That is why I am asking everyone to share this appeal as widely as possible, both in Poland and Italy.
Paulina herself may recognize this story if she was ever given information about her birth and adoption.
Her adoptive family may recognize it.
A biological relative may recognize it.
Or perhaps someone who worked at the children’s institutions in Ciechanów or Płońsk remembers this little girl.
